My first question is has anyone done an m50 auto -> manual swap on an e36. New pic of the car as thanks.

So I posted a few weeks ago that I bought a '94 325i that hada blown headgasket and an automatic.

Last weekend I picked up a different m50 attached to another auto with a 5 speed getrag separate as well as a few miscellaneous things I needed. Now that I have all the parts Im beginning the swap soon, but I've got a question about emissions

Specifically, will the swap be able to pass emissions in CT with minimal rewiring, or will my ecu Pop a check engine light/ require additional work because of the missing automatic transmission...

I've been looking through forums and stuff but I haven't found a concrete answer. Cause if it's going to be an issue I might just drop the new engine and auto in there for emissions and do the auto-> manual swap in a few months.

Unless the autos have a different DME or ECU (they may be the same thing) than the manual DME/ECU then I think it will be fine.

Also what part of CT are you in? I can lend a hand if I don't have work.

I'm a little bit north of Hartford, in Ellington if you know where that is. Are you handy with e36s? Judging from what I've seen I don't think I will have many problems because most of the communication is between the dme and the engine.

Kindw want to be sure though before I go through the effort of doing the actual swap only to have it fail emissions because it thinks the autos broken

Okay I know where that is I used to play against your high school in lacrosse, I live in Simsbury now but I'm more familiar with Wethersfield, West Hartford, and Newington area.

Not with E36's...I would start searching/posting on forums, every swap imaginable has probably been done and documented.
